On 23rd December, Chisem Enterprises hosted a birthday party for three legends in Memphis. This Intimate Evening with Chilli and Friends was a celebration to honour the first lady of Stax, Carla Thomas, and legend Robert "Chilli" Chisem a former Sun Records recording artist, and Gene Mason.
Carla celebrated 65 years of life and Chilli celebrated 60 years of life and 40 years of music with the Climates. The intimate celebration for the legends included their friends in the entertainment industry including he Temprees, Preston Shannon, all the original Climates that recorded with Sun and Elvis Presley, Roosevelt Jamison, Tuna from the original Lyrics, The Madlads, The Astors, The Hi-Rhythm Band, The Masqueraders, Larry Dodson and James Alexander of the Barkays, The Soul Children, Toni Green, Bev Johnson Steve Ladd (WDIA), and Karl Roberts (V101.1) of Clear Channel Radio, Roger Friedman of Fox News NY, Todd Culberhouse (former Rolling Stones and Michael and Janet Jackson Manager and his personal manager), Terreigh Barnett and Signature, and many many more.
Chilli's wife Veronica contacted me after the event and said:
The party was truly wonderful and memoriable. Chilli was the only one that did not know of the event. He was very surprised. There was barely standing room. There were over four hundred people attended. All of the original, most past and present Climates were there. We built a wall of history with photos. Tuna from the Lyrics was even in attendance. The Mayor and the music community gave them awards, and the governor also declared that day for the Climates. It was great.
