Clubbed Movie Out Now In Cinemas In UK

My old mate Paul Mooney is involved in the above movie out now in UK cinemas. Plus there will be a soundtrack in the shops from 26/9/09. However, soul fans will be excited to hear that Paul is also releasing an unissued Sam Dees track on his Selecta/Shotgum label called Train To Tampa which is featured in the film.

Here's the press release:

The new British feature film Clubbed will be launched in UK cinemas on Friday, January 16th. The cast includes Mel Raido, Colin Salmon, Scot Williams, Shaun Parkes, Maxine Peake, Ronnie Fox and Aicha McKenzie.

The acclaimed film is directed by Neil Thompson and co-produced by Martin Carr. Executive producer is Paul Abbott, the former Coronation Street story editor who was executive producer of Shameless (Channel 4).

Clubbed is based on Geoff Thompson's award-winning book Watch My Back which has been reprinted to coincide with the film release.

The film has a 1980s clubland gangster theme and an exciting soundtrack featuring soul, funk and Jamaican ska. The original music score is by Paul Heard.

A soundtrack album will be released on CD by Formosa Music, distributed by PIAS, on January 26th.

The album features some of the more obscure tracks featured in the movie - such as 'Blowing My Mind To Pieces' by Bob Relf, 'Train To Tampa' by Sam Dees, 'Twenty Years Later' by Bobby Hutton, 'I'll Get Off At The Next Stop' by Carol Anderson, 'Cram' by Tony Cook and others by The Gladiators, Dorothy Norwood, Bobby Purify, Loleatta Holloway, Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso and Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers.

The music for Clubbed was selected by director Neil Thompson working with music supervisor Olav Wyper and music publisher Paul Mooney who acted as a consultant.

To coincide with the cinema release, Mooney's company Selecta Records is releasing a limited-edition Sam Dees single featuring 'Train To Tampa' on their Shotgun label subsidiary. Selecta / Shotgun are also reissuing 'Twenty Years Later' by Bobby Hutton and have scheduled a limited issue of 'Blowing My Mind To Pieces' by Bob Relf who passed away last year. The soundtrack album is dedicated to Relf's memory.
